Facts about the flag:
The flag is a tricolor, in the traditional pan-Slavic colors.
When Slovenia was a sub-level republic of Yugoslavia, they used the same tricolor, but instead of the state weapon on the inner edge, a star was displayed in the middle of the flag.
Both the colors of the flag and the design are reminiscent of Russia. This is to remind us of the time when the country was ruled by Austria, and Russia supported the Slovenian liberation movements within the Balkans. The flag was adopted on the 27th of June 1991, in connection with the Declaration of Independence.
On the state weapon, there is a stylized image of the mountain Triglav, with the wavy lines below symbolic of the sea and rivers.
