The Indian flag is divided into the colors saffron yellow, white and green, and has a blue wheel with 24 spokes.

The flag is a typical tricolor and is called Tiranga - translated in Hindi from the word "tricolor". The current Indian flag derives from the flags used during the 20th century in the struggle for freedom from the British Empire.

In 1931, an almost identical flag was adopted that reminds us of today's version. India's flag is very similar to the flag of Ireland and is most likely inspired by a country that successfully fought for independence from the Brits.

The wheel in the middle corresponds to the blue color of the sea and the sky, the 24 spokes stand for the 24 hours of the day, which is a symbol for movement in life and the possibility to keep death away.

India is also called Bharat in some cases.
