The flag of Djibouti was adopted the same day the country gained its independence, on the 27th of June, 1977. The triangle stands for equality and the white color is a symbol of peace.

The red star stands for their unity, but it is also seen as a symbol of the fight for independence. The green color of the flag stands for the Afar people of Djibouti, and the blue stands for the Issas.

There is also an alternative explanation of what the colors of the flag stand for, with the green a symbol of the earth, and the blue representing the sky. The colors of the flag are also the same colors used by the liberation movement LPAI.
